You can always ask for help online and maybe find good people working for free in their spare time. It's a kind of a challenge to manage several people from various part of the globe. If you have a clear idea of what to do and what kind of help you need that can be enough to get some people willing to help.
A creative Commons / Open-Movie project doesn't always imply people working for free. If you look at BlenderFoundation open movies , people are paid and can work at the same place, that help a lot to stay on schedule and work efficiently.
One thing that is a bit complex with their movie , it's that there are many goals to achieve :
1/ do a movie that is good enough to promote well blender.
2/ improve the software while making the movie
3/ provide the project files , so it must be clean enough to let someone re-do the movie by himself.
4/ provide some tutorials and making of on how everything work.
5/ stay comunicative enough about how the production is going and cope with the critics / feedback from the community.
It's a very tough challenge that for me as been possible only thanks to Ton being the producer of these movies. There as been many community project that never finish because of a lack of a clear starting point, and also poor management . But if you only need a bit of help, that's not as complex as these kind of projects.
