Crop node "not-so-simple" usage

#1

We would expect it to work just like Nuke’s one :
when checking ‘Reformat’, the Bbox auto-adjusts to the crop values.

#2

the bbox (is that how you call the RoD) is adjusted, but not the Format if you set the size manually, because it can be animated (and the format can not)

is there something unclear in the doc?

Reformat / reformat Boolean Off Translates the bottom left corner of the crop rectangle to be in (0,0). This sets the output format only if ‘Format’ or ‘Project’ is selected as the output Extend. In order to actually change the format of this image stream for other Extent choices, feed the output of this node to a either a NoOp node which sets the proper format, or a Reformat node with the same extent and with ‘Resize Type’ set to None and ‘Center’ unchecked. The reason is that the Crop size may be animated, but the output format can not be animated.

Hi Frederic,

thanks for replying. It’s a little bit complex to achive a simple crop don’t you think ?
I’ve tried by using a simple NoOp to do the thing. It kind of works, but the RoD remains the same as the one that feeds the NoOp, so when adding a Transform node downstream, the center position is also based on the original image .
I know for experience that dealing with crops may be a little tricky even in Nuke, especially when working with formats like anamorphic 2k, and Nuke DOES actually perform a real crop, so you can imagine with Natron, one would go mad…
